The city of Polson, Montana was named after pioneer rancher David Polson and was incorporated on April 5, 1910. Early local industries included ranching, lumber and the operation of many steamboats.

Steamboats played a major part in early transportation of freight and passengers up and down the large expanse of Flathead Lake. The lumber industry also relied heavily on the use of steamboats, using them to tow large ¡°booms¡± of logs from the north to Polson to be transported overland from there. These early industries formed the foundation for the future settlement and growth of the entire Flathead Valley.

Polson is located on the Flathead Indian Reservation nestled in the foothills at the south end of Flathead Lake. This charming lakeside community is the trading center for one of Montana¡¯s most fertile farming areas and boasts some of the largest cattle ranches in America. The nearby Mission Mountain Range provides some of the most breath-taking scenery in the entire state, perfect for that vacation home you¡¯ve been dreaming of, or choose Polson as your new year-round home!
